Water Filters made Easy At![]() |

| Hello, I'm setting up my home well-water system with two GE GXWH35F whole house filters. My water is clear.....the only real issue is hardness. I will have a 46000 grain softener inline after the filters. My water has about 1 PPM of iron. I will use one filter housing with the standard pleated 20 or 30 micron cartridge to pre-filter the water. Any suggestion on what cartridge I should use for the second filter? Do I need to worry about the iron level and filter for that? Will that level of iron cause any issues with the softener? I'd like to install something that hopefully won't reduce the flow rate too much. Thanks for any suggestions. |

| Normally, filters cartiridges that go before a softener are sediment filters. If you use two, place them in graduated reduction say, a 50/20 micron or a 20/5micron. Another filter type might be a polyphosphate (sequestering) filter to reduce scaling. I would avoid carbon filters or any other filter that would not be cost effective or a media that is better served by a backwashing device or chemical feed. Andy Christensen, CWS-II |
