Default Whole House Water Filter For Parents

We (the children) are going to buy our parents a whole house water filter for Christmas. They have become recently very interested in health related topics, including the impurities in our drinking water. Could you suggest a product or two?

What type of filtration are you looking for? Is the source well water or municipal treated? Tell me everything you can about the water. Have you had a laboratory water analysis done? Is there an odor? How many people live in the home?

With a little more information, we will be able to direct you to a # of good options.

Thank you,

The water is Chattanooga municipal water (not well). It doe not have a particular noticeable odor. We have not had analysis done of any sort. My Dad has cancer and mom has been reading a lot about how chemical filled our water is. They now use a Britta water pitcher for their drinking water, but would like something for the whole house. Just mom and dad live there but during the holidays we pretty much use the three bathrooms all the time…

I was looking in my quick search at the Aqua-Pure AP903. I noticed this one included filtering out chlorine. Others of less cost seemed to only get out sediment or rust. Thoughts?

The AP903 is an excellent choice for whole house filtration. It will accommodate the flow rate needed for a home with three bathrooms, and do a great job of filtering not only the chlorine, but many other contaminants.

Considering you Father's health condition, I would recommend a point of use Reverse Osmosis System with a dedicated faucet at the kitchen sink. Although whole house filtration is important, and the skin is able to absorb many of the contaminants in the water, the amount the skin can absorb compared to the amount ingested through drinking and cooking water pales in comparison. Studies have proven that if a given substance is toxic through ingestion @ 1 part per million, the same substance is toxic through skin absorption @ 10,000 parts per million. In other word it takes 10,000 times more of any given substance to be toxic through the skin than it does through ingestion. For this reason I would recommend you give strong consideration to an RO system, in concert with the whole house filter. RO removes 95+% of everything from the water leaving ultra purified H2O. There is no better form of filtration available. Here is a link to our RO systems: Reverse Osmosis Systems and RO Water Filters for RO Systems
