Water Filters made Easy At![]() |

It depends on the harness level of the water. If you have more then 10grains per gallon of hardness, then this filter will wear out rapidly. If you have hard water, the best way to eliminate the spotting will be to soften the water with a traditional softener. Or you could add a polyphosphate crystal to the water, which is a substance that will bind with the hardness minerals making it impossible for them to bond to each other or to anything else. This will likely be your best option. Thank you, WaterFilters.NET

Thanks for the reply. Our water here is more like a brick than water. The average hardness for my municipality source is 16.5 gpg, but can be as high as 22 gpg. Are you saying that the BBF1-20MB will work, but be depleted quickly, or simply not work at all? And by quickly, are we talking about 10 gallons, 50 gallons? Do you guys sell polyphosphate crystal filters/cartridges/raw/etc? If so, what models might suit our needs. Please keep in mind we don't need high volume capacity; we never do more that one vehicle at a time. Thanks a lot! Last edited by waterfilters; September 18th, 2008 at .

You aren't kidding about hard water. Here is what I would recommend. A basic clear housing like this: Culligan HF-160 Whole House Water Filter Housing and Culligan HF160 System 150389 with this polyphosphate cartridge in it: PCC-1 phosphate crystal water filter and Pentek PCC-1 hexametaphosphate crystal filters 155100 You have such hard water you will probably need to do 2 of these in series to make sure you get enough polyphosphate in the water. Let me know what you think. Thank you, WaterFilters.NET

Sounds good to me! Any ballpark guess how many gallons two of these in series will last? Also, will I be able to detrmine visually when the cartridges are spent? If so, what should I be looking for? Last edited by waterfilters; September 18th, 2008 at .

If you do 2 of these in series, they should last for approximately 6 months. It really depends on how much water you use. The PCC-1 cartridge has polyphosphate crystal beads which I think you will be able to see through the clear sump. They will dissolve and disappear over time. I've never actually seen one in action, but I think you will be able to visually inspect through the clear sump and know when they are getting low and need replacement. Thank you, WaterFilters.NET
