Default US-EZ-4 vs Pentex US 1500

In another thread, you mentioned that the Pentex US 1500 is the best non RO filter. Based on my reading on your site, I believe the Culligan SY-2650 is the same unit, however that's discontinued and replaced by the US-EZ-4.

I don't believe I want to do RO at this time, so I'm interested in knowing which of these two models are better. It seems that they have the same basic statistics, but the Pentex filters are cheaper then the new Culligan ones and the Pentex appears to have more options for the filters. The EZ-4 filters appear to only work on that model.

I'm leaning to go with the Pentex for the filter differences and the electronic sensor. Can you give me any advice on the differences between these models? I'd like to place an order with your company this week. Thanks for this forum and your web site. It really has a lot of great information.

The Pentek US-1500 reduces asbestos but the Culligan US-EZ-4 does not. The Culligan US-EZ-4 reduces chloramines but the Pentek US-1500 filters do not.

You are correct, the replacement filters for the Culligan US-EZ-4 only work with the Culligan US-EZ-4. Whereas, the filters for the Pentek US-1500 can be used in many other filter housings for 10" slimline filters. You can also use several other filters in the Pentek US-1500 system. For example, you could purchase the Culligan D-40 and the Culligan D-28 filter to use instead of the P-250 replacement filter. The D-28 also reduces chloramines so you could get choramine reduction there as well.

The Pentek US-1500 has a better electronic monitor as well. The Culligan US-EZ-4 monitor monitors time whereas the Pentek US-1500 monitors usage.

The Culligan US-EZ-4 has an easy to change filter. You simply screw off the old filter and screw on the new filter. The Pentek US-1500 has the filter housings that you have to screw off first. A wrench does come with the system to assist in removing the housings.

I hope this helps. Here are some of the products mentioned in this post:

Thanks for the information. One more followup question before I buy the Pentek unit. The 2 stage whole house filters that you sell, do they filter as well as the Pentek unit?

Since I'm not interested in RO, I'm trying to figure out if it's better to spend the money on a whole house unit versus just filtering one tap. Thanks.

The 2-stage whole house systems are great for reducing sediment and taste and odor out of your water before reaching your appliances, showers, bathroom fixtures, etc. It's important to have a whole house system to help preserve your appliances.

BBFS-22 Big Blue Water Filter System with mounting bracket for whole house water filtration

The 2-stage whole house system can use any of these filters:
Whole House Big Blue Water Filters and 20 Inch Big Blue Sediment Filter and Drinking Water Filter

The recommended confirmation is:
DGD-5005-20 Water Filters and Pentek DGD500520 Sediment Filter for 20 inch Big Blue Whole House Housings - Stage 1 - 5 micron sediment filter

NCP-20BB carbon filters and Pentek NCP20-BB water filter cartridge 155382 for drinking water treatment - Stage 2 - 10 micron carbon filter

However, this is not good enough for drinking water. RO systems and under sink drinking water systems reduce more contimants than whole house systems. The flow rate is very slow for drinking water systems which is why a separate drinking water faucet is needed. In order to reduce contaminants like lead, atrazine, lindane, etc., more contact time is required which slows the flow rate of the water down. These contaminants don't need to be reduced for a whole house but should be reduced for drinking water.
