Default GE Merlin water usage?

I finally got all the parts and installed the system. I have never use any tankless system before. This system seems to drain a lot of water everytime after I dispense filtered water. I took the air gap out and see how much water was drain each time. The test shows 1 cup of filtered water drains 3 cups of water out!!

Is the system has problem or it is suppose to be like this?

This is normal and actually better than average. The GE Merlin Literature shows a 25% recovery rate, which would give you 1 cup of product and 3 cups to drain. RO systems are like this because they need to have the drain water flushing the surface of the membrane to keep it clean.
