smoky / earthy flavor to water with whirlpool fridge filter

I purchased 2 Whirlpool 4396710 PUR Advanced Refrigerator Filters just recently. I installed the 2nd filter about 10 days ago. Since I replaced the filter, the water has changed its general flavor. I am now detecting a smoky /earthy flavor to the water.
The first filter worked fine and I did not detect any flavor change. Further, when I test the water out of the tap I do not detect any distinct smells or flavors. Please advise.

You do need to run the water through the filter for several gallons in order to flush the filter out. You'll want to discard 2 to 3 gallons of water that comes through the filter before using the water from the filter.
