Default Trihalomethanes sittuation

I've been using CBR2-10 Pentek drinking water filters in my counter top filtration system, I have a question reguarding my water. I live in Lagrange California, we are in the country.. but have an association out here, they do not allow us to have wells drilled. we get our water from a lake called McClure. It is filtered and they use chemicals to clean the water to make it drinkable and safe, we have a water treatment plant out here. We recently received a letter from them letting us know that the our water system recently violated a drinking water standard. They say its not an emergency, but we have a right to know what we should do, what happened, and what they are doing to correct the situation. They routinely monitor for the presence of water contaminants. Water samples results received for the 1st quarter of 2009 showed total Trihalomethanes at levels of 90.1 micrograms per liter. This is above the maximum contaminate level (MCL) of 80 micrograms per liter. They say we do not need to use an alternative water supply (bottled water) and that its not an immediate risk, if it had been we would have been notified immediately. However, some people who use water containing Trihalomethanes in excess of the Maximum Contaminate Level (MCL) over many years may experience liver, kidney,or central nervous system problems, and may have an increased risk of getting cancer. If you have any health issures concering the consumption of this water, you may wish to consult with your doctor. Due to changes in federal and State Regulations they are subjected to a lower Maximum Contaminate Level for Trihalomethanes. They said they anticipate resolving the problem by August 2009. What I need to know from you is: Will this CBR2-10 Pentek drinking water filter for my counter top filtration system remove the "Trihalomethanes" from the water? reason I want to know this is because They concluded last year that the higher levels of Trihalomethanes in the water caused Cancer in Laboratory rats,, but at the time they said they had no know studies if it could cause cancer in people. Now they say we are at an increased risk of getting cancer if the levels are high and if a person has drank the water that way for years. Can you tell me if this filter can remove the Trihalomethanes from the water????

Default Re: Trihalomethanes situation

The CBR2-10 does reduce the Trihalomethanes but adding a second filter the CC-10 you would reduce them more. You could add a undersink filter system such as the HF360 by Culligan. I have included links to the HF360 as well as the CC-10 for your convenience.
Pentek CC-10 Coconut Carbon Water Filter
Culligan HF-360 and Culligan HF360 10 inch Whole House Water Filter System.

Thank you,
