Default Medium Hard Water ( Iron Magnesium and Calcium)

We have a well that has some sediment, medium hard water (iron magnesium and calcium... - iron stains in the toilet and tub) and hydrogen sulfide gas. We've lived with it for years but are building a new house and want better water. I do not like water softeners. After looking at your site and researching I think I decided what I want but I wanted to check with you to make sure I'm being reasonable and getting the best options. We have a family of 4 (2 babies) that doesn't use tons of water. I know these filters do not take out the gas but we were going to try them and when we save enough money put a holding tank between our house and the well in order to get rid of the gas and increase our water pressure.

Here is what I think might work for us:
Whole house filter = double 20" big blue, one with a sediment filter and one with a carbon filter.

Sink - extra for drinking water Culligan SY-2650

What do you think?
How often (approximately) do the filters on the big blue have to be switched? I know it depends on how bad the water is but approximately?

Default Re: Medium Hard Water ( Iron Magnesium and Calcium)

You have obviously done your homework.

I would recommend this filter for sediment: DGD-5005-20 Water Filters and Pentek DGD500520 Sediment Filter for 20 inch Big Blue Whole House Housings

In stage 2 I would recommend you go with a carbon/KDF combo filter. KDF is much better than carbon at removing hydrogen sulfide gas, which is a big part of your problem. See here for more info on KDF media: KDF Water Filters, KDF Media, KDF-55, KDF-85 for Water Filtration and Treatment

The SY-2650 system has been replaced by the uS-1500, but the US-1500 is on back order until June, so I would recommend this system: Watts WQCFU-T-KIT Triple Drinking Water System and Watts WQCFU-T-KIT Triple Drinking Water System with Kwik-Change Cartridges.

Thank you,
