Default High Iron Content

I'm buying a house that has high iron content in the water. Currently, there are 2 filters that are approximately a foot long. The filter media is the standard 10" X 2.5" or so string type filters. They seem to get plugged pretty fast. I'm looking for 20" clear filters with a shut-off valve on top. The curent setup has the two filters in parallel (a box of 1" galv pipe, one inlet, splits to the two filters and then merges back for one outlet). I'm interested in possibly using 2 sets of 2 filters in series, a course and a fine filter in the same type box shape. The issue I am finding is when new filters are added, the flow decreases dramatically. I have 10gpm input to the filters. Can I put a sock over the filters and get more usable life out of the filter media? Went to Lowes and saw the Whirlpool Larg Cap filters. It looks like they are equivalent to your Big Blue series. Would it be more economical to just go to a real iron filtration system, even if it possibly is more expensive?

Default Re: High Iron Content

An automatic backwashing iron removal system like this would be a much easier and less expensive option. IRON-100DM-WF Metered Iron Reduction Backwash Water Filter.

Thank you,
