You say hardness and minerals are not a concern, but, nonetheless, this information will be vital to properly address your water concerns. Have you had your water tested for hardness, iron, TDS., etc.?
What is the source of your water? Surface water, well water? What will the water be used for? What is causing your concerns for mico-organism that MIGHT be in your water? Are you just speculationg or is there actual symptoms/reports that indicate these problems?
Just saying I want to kill the bugs if they are they there, isn't enough.
Putting carbon filters on bacterial infested water can be very risky as they can create a place for bacterial to colonize if not done properly. I agree that UV is the best possible means of handling micro-organisms, bbut, again, only if done properly---or you woukld be wasting your money.
