Default Salty Taste = Undrinkable Water

I have well water. I have a sediment filtration system that takes filters for 5 and 20 microns in the basement, as well as uv light for e. coli and a water softener in my basement, but the water is undrinkable because of a salty taste. i have to buy water, but id like to be able to drink the tap water, utilize a fridge ice maker, etc. can you help direct me towards a filter that will help with that?

It is very likely that the sodium taste is actually the sodium from your watersoftener. This is perfectly normal, and your water is undoubtedly very soft, but not very tasty. This problem is easily fixed with a point of use Reverse Osmosis or RO system. RO reduces the TDS (total dissolved solids) content of the water, reducing many contaminants including the sodium that is troubling you, leaving you with ultra pure, excellent tasting water. These systems typically will be installed under your main kitchen tap, and will have a dedicated RO water faucet separate from the regular faucet. The filtered RO water lines can then be directed to go to more than one application like a fridge for an ice maker or fridge water tap, or to a coffee or espresso machine. Where the RO water goes, and which applications it is used for is merely an installation issue. Please see the following link to see our vast array of RO systems.

How hard is your source water? If your softened water tastes salty, then your softener may not be working properly. Perhaps the backwashing stage of the regeneration has low pressure and not washing the salt out. Or the water volume is not sufficient to do the job.

What kind of softener do you have? What diameter of pipe goes to it? What type of well pump do you have, submersible or jet pump? What is your water pressure, high and low psi?

You can put an RO in to alleviate the salty taste but first find out why that is happening.
