Default Rust...

one of my customers has a spindown filter that does not have a stamped mesh anywhere on it. It keeps plugging up with rust. the rust when dry is super fine and the mesh appears to be super fine. when looking under a magnifying glass, it is obvious that there are two layers of mesh. a coarse one which I presume acts more like a support for the super fine one that is over it. I cannot even actually see the pores of the fine one with a magnifying glass. I have a 140 in stock that when magnified is quite easy to make out the pores.

I do not see the need for this fine of a mesh when this is in line with a geothermal waterfurnace.

I would say that a 100 or 140 mesh would be sufficient.

any suggestions?

Default Re: Rust...

A larger filter would hold more of the rust particles so it would need changing less often.

Here is a 20" Big Blue housing with a 5 micron sediment filter:
20 Inch Big Blue Whole House Water Filter Housing #20 from Ametek, USFilter, and Pentek
DGD-5005-20 Water Filters and Pentek DGD500520 Sediment Filter for 20 inch Big Blue Whole House Housings

I wouldn't think you would want the rust particles to go into the house since it would cause discoloring in the showers, tubs, and not help the life of the appliances.

You could use the larger mesh size so it didn't clog up with smaller particles but then use the larger filter (20" x 4.5") to filter out the smaller particles.

Thank you,
