Default concerning particles, chemicals and taste

I have the whole house water filter #10 big blue. I have well water. I can't decide which filter to get! I am concern with particles, chemicals, and taste, etc. I was checking out the carbon filters, but the filters are so expensive. How long before changing a carbon filter? I am also concern with the flow, will a carbon filter slow the water flow? What is the difference in performance between the granulated and solid carbon filters?

For well water, the DGD-5005 is a good sediment filter. This is a 5 micron filter that will reduce sediment down to 5 microns.

The carbon filters are more expensive so you don't want them to fill up with sediment. Most people install two #10 big blue housings in a row so that the first housing filters out sediment and then the 2nd filter housing contains the carbon filter. By having two filters housings in a row, the carbon filters will last longer because they will not be filling up with sediment as fast.

The RFC-BB is a good carbon filter that does not reduce flow as much as the smaller micron rated carbon filters such as the CBC-BB carbon filter.

The CBC-BB reduces more out of your water - it reduces down to 0.5 microns so that it can reduce cysts out of the water. The flow will be restricted quite a bit however in order to get all of this filtered out of your water.

Since you are on well water, it is recommended that you have a UltraViolet (UV) system to kill bacteria. Filters cannot do this. Here is a good UV system that you can actually have a 20" x 4.5" CBC-20BB filter installed inside of it. If you put the DGD-5005 sediment filter in your #10 big blue housing and then had this UV system installed after it, you would get rid of your bacteria and get the carbon filtration as well.
