Default Chlorine Taste and Odor

If a filter says it filters out chlorine taste and odor, does that mean that it filters out chlorine? I have heard conflicting information on this issue.

Default Re: Chlorine Taste and Odor

There are no filter cartridges that remove the chlorine from water. AC filters as well as other filter media oxidize chlorine reducing it to chloride. Free chlorine and other active chlorine compounds have a strong taste and odor. You can usually detect chlorine at levels well below 1 ppm. Chloride on the other hand is not usually detectable below 250 ppm. As you can see if you take 1 ppm of free chlorine and reduce it to chloride you will in fact remove the taste and odor of chlorine.

Thank you,
