Default 5-Stage Honeywell RO System

The 5-stage Honeywell RO system that I have has not been used in a year. Do I have to do anything special to ensure that it is bacteria free when I restart it? If so, please advise on information for start-up at this time.

It's a good idea to clean the system with a mild bleach solution (2 tablespoons of bleach in a gallon of water). Be sure to rinse thoroughly, because chlorine is bad for membranes. Other than that, be sure to run 3-4 tanks of water through the membrane to purge the food grade preservative out, before drinking. Also, sometimes it takes a new membrane several hours for water to permeate through, so be patient.

Thank you,
