The smaller the #, the smaller the pore size. A micron is 1/1,000,000 of a meter. So all things being equal at the high end of flow capacity a 5 micron filter will have lower flow rates than a 100 micron filter, and the 5 micron will filter out more contaminants. Flow rate shouldn't be a problem for you unless you are pushing the limits of the filters capacity. Here's another way of looking at it: If you have a 100 micron filter and are already experiencing low flow rates, then a 5 micron will make it worse.
